What is the best way to light a campfire without matches?

I'm going on a survival weekend on Dartmoor, Devon. In the News being sent to me there are three challanges. For one day the challange is to light a campfire without the aid of matches and we were responsible for providing the necessary tools / materials to our first day induction. My brother says that this will be a pleasure to learn to know the competition that you tap to settle the nerves everybodies before the start of serious things, but I'm nervous just thinking about it! What should I take? All advice is welcome!

Ignore the other second, what you need is a Firesteel and dust maya. Originally developed by an expert in arctic survival Swedish, a Swedish Firesteel is the best way to light a fire in any weather. Firesteel is made a magnesium alloy which consists of 7 metals. It illuminates the most flammable materials such as wood, paper, but if you want to turn camp fire use Maya Dust. Maya Dust is made of a highly resinous wood chips and comes in a little tin. What you do is take a large pinch of Maya, into a little pile, then pull out your knife and your Firesteel and rub the edge blade very quickly on the Firesteel. This will create a spark that will fall on the Maya and because it is very resinous and combustion fired it enough quickly. Now all you do is put a spoke in the Mayan dry combustion and keep adding bigger until you have a campfire. Easy and work much better than lighters I can assure you. I It also promises to impress your camp instructors. I live in Devon and Dartmoor can see the window my room. This time of year it's windy. Lighters will blow! Forget Service ….. it will probably conviscated anyway as too dangerous and a risk to health and safety. Do not mess with him! Ray Mears Trust that I do.
