What year did the polar bears and become the icon of Canada?
I need it for a history project that I'm about bears polar and global warming. Does anyone know what year the polar bear is officially became an icon of Canada. Or what year the two-dollar coin was made? It would be greatly appreciated, thank you. 
I noticed that the guy did not respond your question about when the tooney was made. According to Wikipedia the piece of $ 2.00 was introduced February 19, 1996. Whether not a polar bear is a Canadian symbol is questionable. I think the polar bear is more of an Eskimo or an Inuit icon, as opposed to a Canadian icon. Typically, icons in Canada tend to be beavers, Canada geese.
